Songwriting for Vets

We’re excited to share a creative new opportunity for ASU Online student veterans and military-connected learners this spring!

Songwriting for Vets is a weekly virtual course that will start on Feb. 4 and be held every Wednesday for the following 5 weeks from 1:00–2:30 PM MST. This course is designed to introduce you to the art of songwriting—no prior musical experience required. Whether you are brand-new to music or have taken part in our Music for Vets program before, this class welcomes all skill levels.

Led by U.S. Army combat veteran and singer-songwriter Travis Burns, this course will help you turn your stories, experiences, and perspectives into original songs. From emotional expression to humor and creativity, you’ll explore how “three chords and the truth” can give voice to your lived experience.

This class offers a meaningful way to connect with others, expand personal expression, and explore music as a tool for reflection and healing—all from wherever you’re located as an ASU Online student.

We hope you’ll join us for this engaging and inspiring six-week journey into songwriting and storytelling.
